During New York Fashion Week, the Victoria’s Secret fashion show and hair competitions models walk the runway with each hair perfectly in place.

Is there a difference between runway hair and your hair? I’ve been doing fashion shows and hair competitions for years, and I don’t really see the difference. Let me explain.

The consultation process is all the same – whether I am collaborating with a guest or fashion designer. I figure out the direction of the color, then the cut and style working to find the right balance so that I can achieve the desired look that the guest or designer wants.

The looks we see on the runways and in competitions are often not practical to do as an everyday look. The fashion designers are choosing hairstyles for the models that will sell their clothes – you should be choosing a hairstyle that will sell you – your own unique look in a world filled with billions of people.

Hairdressers are a wonderful breed. You work one-on-one with another human being and the object is to make them feel so much better and to look at themselves with a twinkle in their eye.

I treat each guest that sits in my chair like a model – I get to help them find their own signature style. When she steps out of the salon, she has a far more important runway to walk onto – her life, and I get to share a little piece of that with her – how exciting is that?!

When choosing a salon and Stylist, you should find one that makes you feel like a model in a fashion show. From the minute you begin your consultation to the second you walk out of the salon.
